Hangman’s House of Horrors Documentary

by Nathan Stout (of AccordingToWhim.com)

For 2011 According To Whim is going to produce a documentary for the Fort Worth Charity Haunted House: Hangman’s House of Horrors. The idea popped up last year when we did some videos for the organization. We talked to the owner D’Ann Dagen and we all agreed that it would be great to shoot a full length documentary.

The idea was mine and Miguel’s. We wanted to do a really nice project to show everyone what we could do with the equipment we have. The project would sever several purposes:

  1. Content for According To Whim
  2. Advertising for Hangman’s
  3. Content for ATW-Productions (promotion)
  4. More excuses to mess about at the haunted house

It also allows for more time to hang out with Miguel (which is very hard to do now-a-days).

This is the very first of several articles where I will discuss this project. It will provide me and Miguel a roadmap of what we plan to shoot as well fill in some much needed days on the Daily Blog.

Our plan is to have the documentary run about sixty minutes. That might change as we discuss what we can cover with D’Ann. She will be the focus of the documentary. She is the owner and operator of the charity and has the most knowledge. We will probably also use Darla Robinson as a second source for the documentary. She has been there with D’Ann from almost the beginning.

My (first) general outline is as follows:

  • Introduction
  • The vision (goals) of the charity
  • The origins of Hangman’s House of Horrors
  • Each year of the production (anecdotes) (22 segments)
  • The 2011 season
  • Closing

The outline will be tailored to remove a large segment of the anecdotes in case they want a short version of the whole thing. We will also cut it in a way to be able to seamlessly remove the 2011 information to make the whole thing ‘timeless’, removing any dated material.

I am sure this outline will change and in future Blogs I will expand each of these pieces and eventually script it out. When we go to actually shoot the interviews I sure some stuff will change when D’Ann and Darla are in the moment and remember certain things they want included (or removed).

We are hoping this will be the best looking video we have done so far and will provide some great examples for our portfolio of work (as well as some much needed advertisement for the charity).
