In Response… of a Response (of some old posts)…

Several months ago when I had most of my belongings in storage (like 95% of it), I wrote this post about my hoarding and purging habits. I thought I’d update the situation since I’ve basically finished a 5 month mega purge due to downsizing.

To cut a long story short we moved from a 4,200sqft house to a 2,400sqft house to finally a 2,100sqft house. This last house also came with a lot of furniture left from the previous owner. ALOT.

For the last several months I have been unpacking and getting rid of old, damaged, or just extra furniture that we simply do not have the room to keep. I refuse to buy additional storage. Luckily the city picks up bulk trash once a week. I have been taxing them greatly. Ofcourse by the time the actual city trash comes, scrappers have cleared out a lot of my thrown stuff.

I have also sold some stuff on Marketplace and sold personal stuff at conventions or Ebay as well. Over all this is the greatest purge I have ever done. Chris will often talk about my purging and I always felt like he was exaggerating it way too much. I did sell some of my personal stuff on Ebay back in the day, thinning out my stuff but I wouldn’t call it a straight up purge.

The older I get, the less I feel the need to keep stuff. I really don’t want to leave a pile of crap to my wife and kids that no one would want. Might as well sell it for a profit now (or throw away the junk).

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want to have one of those houses that is antiseptic with nothing in it except some wall art from Hobby Lobby. I like my junk, but just enough to keep it cozy an comfortable.

I still have lots of stuff but at least I don’t have to store some of it on the driveway…

I have a motto I often repeat… “A place for everything, and everything in it’s place”.
