I’m Writing Pointless Blogs, That’s the Point

by Chris McGinty

I’m finding it difficult to do something. It was the thing that caused me to stop posting daily last year and is threatening to make me stop this year. It seems really hard to get the posts scheduled out significantly into the future. It seems like I can get one or two days ahead, and then over the next one or two days I’ll find myself trying to get a last-minute post in. Sometimes it’s because of life getting in the way, but sometimes it’s because I’ll find myself with the luxury of a scheduled post looking for something worth writing about.

It seems really easy at the last minute to come up with something pointless to talk about, but when you have time, you don’t want it to be pointless. Deadlines are kind of screwy that way. Sometimes you luck out and still manage to get some good work in, but other times it’s a disaster. I do wonder about the people whose livelihood relies on them sitting down and writing. It doesn’t feel like there would be a lot of room for originality in that scenario.

Is that really the point though? I would imagine that when writing is done at such a pace that you just tell yourself, nothing is really all that original anyway, so why worry about originality? I mean, I could go and recycle some articles that I’ve written pretty easily. Make a few tweaks and it’s a whole new article. It may be the difference between being a writer and an artist, but I guess that’s ok.

Chris McGinty is an artiā€¦ is a blogger. You just keep that in mind, buddy, and churn out content. That’s what your goal says, so that’s what you do.
