Flash Fiction: God’s To Do List

by Chris McGinty

He sat one night with a quill and an ink pot and started making a to do list. It was a long and detailed list, the kind that only an omniscient being could make. It became larger and larger and more detailed. It started growing beyond the comprehension of any one but Him. Soon it was so large, so detailed that it accounted for every possibility in existence.

Upon its final divine entry, the list exploded and expanded. From that moment, existence completed the to do list branch by branch and possibility by possibility, checking off all of the tasks as it went as every photon was observed and every choice was made. Over so many billions of years, beyond the comprehension of anyone but Him, item by item until the eventual heat death of the universe.
