Flash Fiction: Seeking Truth

by Chris McGinty

He walked over to the bookshelf to find something to read, but all the texts were lies. He turned on the radio to listen to the emotions expressed in pop music, but none of the people who wrote and sang those songs still felt that way so many years later. He tried to choose a movie, but those were fictitious stories played out by actors. He turned on the news, but the reporting was biased to the point of lacking truth. He went on social media, but it was all just those lies being repeated and twisted further. He felt the only true pieces of work on the internet were the pieces suggesting that almost nothing in the internet was real anymore, as it was all marketing and manipulation. Finally, he decided to talk to his best friend, but his best friend was an AI program who didn’t really understand.
