I named this part one with a questionable punctuation mark, because I’m not a weathermatician, so I can’t be sure if this is the only winter weather we’re going to experience here in the Texas. But as I’m writing this, there is snow and the roads are maybe getting a little precarious.
This has been an odd week for forecasting. We’ve known for a few days now that we would get snow. They went back and forth on how much, when it would fall, and whether there would be any freezing temperatures involved. They were at least right about the snow.
So the messy weather started around 6 am on Thursday, but it was freezing rain at that point and it was not below freezing. It was a bit white out by the time I woke up, but it was still ice more than snow. I called work and asked if we would be open and they said we were closing at 9 pm.
I went in. I took deliveries. I washed dishes and chewed bubblegum, but I didn’t have any bubblegum. There were a lot of dishes though. A lot of deliveries too, as I didn’t get off the road until just before 9 pm. I also didn’t make near what I believe I should have made per the weather conditions.
People still be broke from Christmas.
The roads really weren’t that bad. It was still rain most of the night and it wasn’t freezing. For some reason, there was one road that I had to go down a few times. It’s a well enough traveled road. Yet, it was somehow making my vehicle slide as though it was in a special location where it was actually freezing for two city blocks. Weird.
It started raining while I was finishing up the dishes and the drive home was when I started thinking that I was glad I wouldn’t be driving in that nonsense much longer. It still wasn’t freezing, but some of the roads were starting to pursue the goal.
As I write this, the forecast says that it’ll freeze for about 2 to 3 hours just before the sun comes up and then it won’t be freezing as the last bits of snow fall during the morning. After that, it’ll be cold, but the messy part will be over. Why do you need to know all of this? You don’t. But let’s just pretend I learned a valuable lesson like, “Persevere, but get off the road before it freezes,” or “Always watch out for that one road that isn’t paying attention to the official weather.”
