My Blog Writing Process So Far in 2025 (Part One)

by Chris McGinty

You can just presume that one part of my writing process for 2025 is just writing about the process, because it’s all I’ve been doing the last few days. I will get beyond this soon enough.

Even though I hate streak habits, I’m trying to create the habit of posting to the blog every day. Just having this one daily obligation keeps me thinking about writing and that’s probably a good thing. The downside is that because it’s supposed to be daily, it might be distracting from other writing I could be doing. The hope is that the upside is greater than the downside. If not, I’m sure I’ll give up on it again like last year.

I’ve discussed it many times in the past, but I agree with Seth Godin about the idea of posting a blog daily. This is in part because I enjoy writing, and it gives me a focus on writing. I think the other reason is because writing helps with examining thoughts. I have a lot of thoughts and seem to lack the filter to know which are important. Writing some of my thoughts helps to identify which thoughts are worth pursuing.

This is a hidden booby trap of daily posting. There are a lot of times that I will sit down to write an idea only to realize that it’s not worth pursuing. This is better when I realize quickly, but sometimes I’ve written full blog posts only to realize that it’s not much of a thought. When I’m not posting daily, those don’t make it to the blog. They have more of a chance of getting posted when it’s the best thought I have that day. This can be a good thing or a bad thing. So far, in 2025, it feels more like a bad thing.
